3D scanning

If the part in your hand has no file, we start with 3D scanning. The scanner turns the part's surface into a digital model; our engineers build production-ready CAD data from that model.

How the process runs

You send us the sample. We scan it, verify critical dimensions with calipers and micrometers, and build the CAD model. After your approval of the model, the part is produced with FDM, CNC turning or CNC milling. Your sample is returned to you when the work is done.

Shiny, transparent or very dark surfaces can need extra preparation for scanning; we say so up front when we see the part.

Stage 1

Where scanning is used

Scanning serves three jobs: producing an identical copy of a part that has no file, redesigning a broken or discontinued part, and comparing a produced part against its intended dimensions.

A scan alone is not a manufacturing file. The point cloud and mesh are converted into a dimensioned CAD model; screw seats, diameters and faces are defined on the drawing. Production starts only after this step.

  • Model extraction before like-for-like production
  • Completing missing geometry on broken parts
  • Dimensional and form checks on produced parts
  • Master model scanning before mold work

Questions

Does the scanned model go straight to production?

No. A scan gives a mesh; production needs a dimensioned CAD model. That conversion is part of the engineering review.

Can a missing piece of a broken part be recovered?

Usually yes. Symmetry, a mating part or the working surface is enough to complete missing geometry. We say up front where we cannot.

How do I send the sample?

Write to us from the contact page; we settle shipping together. The sample is returned after production.
