Aluminum 6061 compared with 7075

Get a quote

6061 is a general aluminum alloy with magnesium and silicon. It is common as plate, bar and extrusion, and it shows up in welded trials and anodized prototypes. The automatic quote does not guess anodize color or thickness.

7075 is a high-strength zinc alloy for links where fatigue and tension matter. Calling it a slightly better 6061 on every bracket only adds time. In eksenix.com its machinability factor starts higher than 6061. That factor is a placeholder you can edit.

7075 is less forgiving in corrosion than 6061. Choosing it for a wet or salty environment without a coating plan is early. 6082 is the frequent European cousin of 6061; machine the alloy you can actually buy.

Both alloys need a tool radius in internal corners. A modelled sharp corner is not a zero-radius milled corner.

Ask whether the load exceeds a typical 6061 plate, whether fatigue is real, and whether the environment is corrosive. If the answer is no, a 6061 prototype is the simpler path. See material choice.
